Things To Do with a Good Biscuit Recipe

By Rebecca | May 14, 2008

A biscuit recipe can be used for many last minute meal ideas. If you don’t have a favorite recipe, here is mine: Baking Powder Biscuits

Pigs in a Blanket: Roll out the biscuit dough until it is about a quarter inch thick. Cut the dough into strips and roll them around hot dogs. Cook until the outside of the biscuits are golden brown. Serve with ketchup and mustard.

Pizza: Roll the dough until it is a quarter inch thick. Press it onto the bottom of a cookie sheet. Spread spaghetti sauce, cheese and toppings over the dough. Bake at 450 for 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese begins to bubble.

Cinnamon Rolls: Roll the dough into a rectangle about a quarter to half an inch thick. Melt 1/4 cup butter or margarine and spread evenly over the dough. Mix 1/4 cup granulated sugar with 2 Tbsp. of cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the buttered dough. You can sprinkle with raisins or nuts if desired.

Lift one edge of the dough and roll it up. Slice the roll about every inch to make the cinnamon rolls. Place in a pan about 1/2 an inch apart. Bake according to the biscuit recipe directions.

(Note: If the rolls are placed too far apart in the pan they raise out rather than up. There is nothing wrong with them taste wise but the layers crack and they don’t look as nice.)

You can eat the cinnamon rolls plain or you can frost them. A simple glaze can be made from 1/4 cup butter or margarine and 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar.

Meal in a Bun: Roll the dough out like you would for cinnamon rolls. Brush lightly with olive oil. Sprinkle with chopped ham and grated cheese. Roll up, slice and cook like you would cinnamon rolls.

These are great for meals on the road or lunches at work. You can use other meats and cheese for different flavor buns. For a pizza bun, omit the olive oil, spread spaghetti sauce lightly over the dough and sprinkle on cheese and one topping. Roll up and cook.
