Special Ensign Issue on Jesus Christ: An Ideal Missionary Tool

By Rebecca | March 31, 2008

Perhaps I’m a little late to the game here–after all this is the last day of March–but the March 2008 Ensign (or Liahona) is a perfect gift for less active or non-member friends. Each page features beautiful artwork of the Savior. As if this alone were not inspiring enough there are articles about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, apostolic testimonies of our Redeemer as well as testimonies and experiences of LDS members around the world.

The Church, of course, noticed this potential long before I did. There is a video on the church website (here) introducing the Special Issue with the invitation to members to download it and e-mail it to friends and family. The issue may also be purchased in bulk from the distribution center at a discounted price.

This morning I took some cookies and a copy of this Ensign to my new visiting teaching companion who has been having a rough time of late. She is working two jobs and hasn’t been to church for some while. I wanted to take her something that would lift her spirits. I baked cookies but it didn’t seem to be enough. Then the Ensign caught my eye.

There was a bit of an internal struggle since I was reluctant to give up my copy of this beautiful issue. Still, I knew that I could order another one and I felt that this sister needed this Ensign more than I did at this time. I took it to her with the cookies.

Immediately after the visit, I began thinking of other friends and family members who would benefit from a similar gift. When I went to the Church website to purchase extra copies, I noticed that there is now an entire website (http://jesuschrist.lds.org) about the Savior. It is a site of simple design and easy to navigate. One page tells, briefly, how each part of our worship brings us closer to Jesus Christ. Another page allows you to read the testimony of each latter-day prophet from Joseph Smith to President Monson.

Some of the links will take you to the corresponding section on Mormon.org. There, visitors will find more in depth information about LDS doctrines and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The rescources of this church are amazing to me. We have access to a beautiful magazine that we can use to invite friends and family to learn more of Jesus Christ. Then we can point them to the website that offers more details about the Savior and our faith in Him. If our friends then make it all the way to Mormon.org, they can research the doctrines and practices of our faith until they are ready to meet with the missionaries.

With all of this available to us, all we need to supply is the faith–and the courage–to take the first step.
