Fun Food Storage Recipe: Whole Grain Granola
By Rebecca | March 19, 2008
6 cups Rolled Oats
1 cup nuts (optional; almonds seem to work best)
1 cup wheat germ (or whole grain wheat flour)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup honey
1/3 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup Dried fruit (opt.)
In a large bowl, mix oats, nuts, wheat germ, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together honey, oil and vanilla. Pour the honey mixture over the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. This is a sticky process and you may be required to mix the honey in with your hands so that it gets mixed in sufficiently. Make sure that there are no dry spots. Place the granola in a large, shallow pan. Bake at 250 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours. Stir every thirty minutes.
If desired, mix in dried fruit, like raisins or dates, after the granola is done cooking. Store in a dry container with a lid. It can be kept in the pantry with other breakfast cereals.
